Supplementary benefits

General description
Supplementary benefits (prestations complémentaires, PC) are based on the general notion of basic needs: they provide to those who are entitled, a social minimum for living. Supplementary benefits are directed to beneficiaries of AVS and AI pensions or allowances for non-AI beneficiaries including some beneficiaries of daily AI allowances.

The PC are calculated on an individual basis. Consequently the method of calculation requires an examination of the disposable income and costs to be covered of each case.

Legal foundations
Supplementary benefits, as well as the AVS and AI pensions, do not have to be reimbursed unless, of course, they are received without due cause. In the canton of Neuchâtel, supplementary benefits are paid according to two laws, i.e. the Federal Law on Supplementary Benefits to AVS/AI (LFPC) and the introductory cantonal law of the federal law on supplementary benefits for AVS/AI of 10th November 1999.

Request for supplementary benefits
Application forms for supplementary benefits are available at the local AVS agency where you live. When the document is duly filled out, it should be submitted to the local AVS agency for checking and forwarding to the cantonal fund of Neuchâtel (Caisse cantonale neuchâteloise de compensation).
