Useful Information

Primary school
Primary school is part of the compulsory schooling and extends over a period of 5 years. The attendance of the primary school is free. The pupils begin in 1st grade at 6 years of age. The primary school educates them by especially encouraging the acquisition of skills necessary for integration within the workplace and in social life through a progressive education, which is adapted to the pupils’ abilities.

Socio-educational service (SS-E)
Other services are attached to the nursery and primary schools, such as the socio-educational service (SS-E). It comprises of two social workers who intervene within the framework of the school and offer aid to families whose children have behavioural problems, social and family problems as well as integration difficulties. As the socio-educational service is very aware of the importance of collaboration with the family, the social workers will pay frequent visits to the parental home.

School-medical service (SME)
Given that the school medicine is part of the remits of the communes, the school-medical service (SME) is also linked to nursery and primary schools. The services of the medical service include clinical examinations, pupil growth checks, sensorial examinations (sight and hearing), compulsory and recommended vaccinations, tuberculosis epidemic checks and health education as well as dental hygiene.
